Scaling & Root Planing
This is a process by which hard deposits of calculus (tartar) is removed from under the gumline. When these incrustations are 5mm or less, they can be removed non-surgically.
When they are deeper than 5mm, a surgical procedure must be performed, elevating a flap of the gum tissue to expose the deposits, in order to insure their complete removal.
If the complete removal of claculus and the toxins embedded on the root surfaces is not completely removed, periodontal disease will continue to become more severe, leading to the loss of the teeth.
